One of the most important aspects of a sports game is of course the players. Players in football nowadays reach a high social standing because of the popularity brought about by the game. Plus, popular football players rake in millions of income not only through their professional career but through the different endorsements too.

Offensive Team Players

Here are the roles and responsibilities of each offensive team players in the game of football:

a. Quarterback – is the player responsible for receiving the ball from the centre upon the start of the play.

b. Halfback – responsible for carrying the ball on run plays.

c. Fullback – lines up in the offensive backfield and run-blocks for the halfback while pass-blocking for the quarterback.

Defensive Team Players

Defensive functions of some defensive team players:

a. Defensive End – lines up directly to the defensive line and contain the running back on running plays to the outside to prevent the enemy’s team from penetrating the lines.

b. Defensive Tackle – the player who lines up on the interior line and should stop and run back on running plays.

c. Nose Tackle – this player is also known as the nose guard whose main responsibility is to line up directly across from the centre.

Some of the positions of football special teams include:

a. Gunner – lines up on the outside of the offensive line and specialize in racing downfield to tackle the kick or punt returner.

b. Holder – this player is responsible for catches the snap from the centre and places it down so that the place kicker can kick it through the goal post.

c. Kick Returner – is the player responsible for catching kick-offs and should return them in the opposite direction.
